There were some 'detours' in effect for cyclists on the far northern portion of the LFP this morning (and presumably for the coming days/weeks) - the detours reroute you via trails closer to the lake, some of which are covered in sand - anyone not wishing to ride on/through sand should probably look at taking an alternative route.

Between which crosstreets is this work being done?
Work was done between Hollywood and Foster with detours for a couple of them. But all the way down till Lawrence, I saw some being worked on with only a sign that indicates chunks were taken out.
I can appreciate patching the rough spots on the trail, but you've got to question the timing. Its the peak of biking season (ITS BIKE TO WORK WEEK!) and they decide to rip up the trail now. I was planning to ride the path up to Ardmore for tonight's ATA pit stop, now I'll probably skip it.
Plus, many of the other spots they've already patched (just south of Irving, for one) show the poor workmanship of the crews involved. The seam between old and new pavement is not smooth, so what was once an avoidable rough spot, is now replaced with a hard bump crossing the whole path
I really wouldn't recommend the path during those times anyway.
Maybe it will be done by 5:00 PM? I'm sure ATA wouldn't have planned this pit stop if they'd known about the road fixing.

Well that was fast; https://twitter.com/#!/activetransLFT is posting pictures of new asphalt already laid north of Montrose and from south of Bryn Mawr to Hollywood
about 10 years ago, they were repaving the path between montrose and lawrence, when speedy me, came flying around the bend near the washroom by Montrose, and rode into the fresh backtop pavement and left 2 mountain bike width ditch, I was embarassed, and being yet at by the workers didn't help. My so call fiends just laugh.
There's another detour this morning from about North Blvd until Division.
I spent all spring wondering when the annual re-paving and patching was going to turn that stretch un-rideable for a few days but it never happened. Was the winter mild enough that it wasn't necessary, or did someone just forget and then have an "oh shit" moment on Monday morning?
Brilliant timing regardless.
They were waiting for Bike to Work Week so they could inconvenience the maximum number of cyclists. But seriously, I'm grateful for the continued improvements along the LFT, which is my primary route to work.
When i rode in this morning it seemed that they'd finished the section they were working on yesterday (one of the northern sections of the LFP - seem to have done a nice job).
A diversion was in place on another section (from where E North Boulevard would intersect with the path if it extended that far) where presumably upgrade work is also being done. The detour was onto the wide 'slightly-sloping-paved-concrete-apron' (not sure how to describe it!) that starts at this point between the path and the lake and runs south.
On a slightly different topic - anyone know what that massive inflatable rat on the intersection of Ardmore and Sheridan is about?!
They had a lot of stretches marked out on the southside in april. I think there was some sort of scheduling snafu and they started working on it just before the NATO summit and had to stop work until the summit was done and out of town. They finished the work on the south side a few weeks ago and it looks like it's the north side's turn now.
