The Chainlink

Hey all I am looking for a LBS that has a good wheel smith. I have a pair of  Mavic Ksyrium SL and the rear wheel is starting to have problems. specifically the pawls are beginning to slip when out of the saddle on a hill or other incline also spoke tension seems to be kind of off it sounds like it has kilickity klacks on it when under a heavy load. They still seem fairly true. I need someone competent who will honestly tell me if they can be rebuilt or if it is time to replace them. thanks in advance

sorry forgot to mention I am in Chicago IL. in Lakeview.

Lou at the Pony Shop in Evanston.  Strictly the best.

Get a grip, Element Multisport, Cycle Smithy are good ones.  I had a wheel rebuilt at Get a Grip and am happy.

How old is the wheel?  Mavic has a pretty amazing warranty policy on their high end stuff.

Bring it by Rapid Transit on North Ave. when I am there and I can take a look at it for you if you like; feel free to message me here to make sure I am there.

Well, DUG beat me to it, but I will second Rapid Transit (as a customer LOL) We had Rapid Transit build some nice heavy duty wheels and we have put them through hell and Chicago potholes and they are still running true to the day they were built. I am sure there are other great places out there, but my husband and I like RT for their service.

Yojimbo's Garage, Tati, and RT are well known for their good wheelbuilders.

Thanks everyone I think I am going to go over to Rapid transit on Sunday and have Doug take a look at the wheel.
