Inspired by (and in discussion with) our beloved founder, the bright and beautiful Leah, I've created a new social network for SKATERS! ChicagoSkater.org uses the same software as TheChainLink (Ning) and members here can join there with just a click or two because of shared data.
From the site's MORE page:
"Welcome to THE social network for Chicago area skaters. This site serves inline skaters principally, but all major foot powered fun outside of bike and walk are welcome. This site is modeled after, friends with, and a good balance to The Chain Link, a major local cyclist social networking site.
This site is a third generation work by Andrew Bedno. Andrew has been an avid local inline skater for more than a decade and founded the local inline skater Yahoo group and past local skating sites. Andrew is a skate commuter, local anti-automobile activist, and involved with Chicago Critical Mass and Chicago Naked Ride bike/skate events.
This site is intended primarily for dynamic social threads and event discussions with rapid information turnover. Static reference content such as tutorials and maps are elsewhere offsite."

I'm announcing here of course because of overlapping interests, and as a good place for a thread on the subject of the new site.

Skaters here, please hop over to ChicagoSkater.org to join NOW!

Congratulations Andrew! I'll see if I can get my brother to join...
I have not been on skates in a long time Andrew. Remember that is when I first met you at peacefest along the lake at Cricket Hill. You were on skates .... Yah. Hey, I have some excel macros that are worth money. I'll split any sales with you if you take payment and assist in getting them on top of the search engines. I will guarantee the programming aspect of them. My phone # is 773-343-4500 or send me a note. Marty
I recently found a photo of you and me from after a skate rave that must have been over ten years ago, disposable camera, post-party at little gold coast bar who's name escapes me...

since it is on ning, users can login into that site with the same user name and password as the chainlink.
Hey it came up where if I understand right, someone was worried about if I would then know their Ning password? As far as I've seen so far, I can't get much more detail on members then the public sees. Shows email, but not even birthday or phone. Leah could confirm this?
Furthermore I think existing TheChainLink users can simply SIGN IN (as opposed to sign up) on ChicagoSkater.org using their existing TheChainLink login(/email)+password, then maybe click a confirming (join) button. I believe what we've all got technically is a Ning login then, and not a site specific one. Could someone from here join there and confirm the process?
Even though they're harder to find these days, I still TOTALLY dig finding a roller rink and bringing out my speed skates for a fun afternoon. I'm talking quad skates. LOVE em :)

I went to the 1988 Peacefest while on leave from the Army. Still have the flyer. I remember going to an after party at the Cubbie Bear to See Agent Orange and 7 Seconds. Met Tattoo Master Guy Atchinson, he let my girlfiend and I stay at his pad while we where in town. Good Times!
