Get Lit: Use lights at night (front side)

I will be asking you to donate money by the end of this post.

I believe that too many people are cycling without headlights. Not only do city and state law require cycling with a white front light at night, it bodes well for your if you are involved in a crash at night. You do not have a case, essentially, and one of our many bike lawyers will concur.

Active Transportation Alliance has conducted many bike light distributions in the past few years. They do it with donated money. One event was sponsored by Lawyer Jim Freeman, while another even was sponsored by Groupon's G-Team and Groupon purchasers.

I am introducing you to the Get Lit campaign I've started. This campaign uses a simple website, a fancy postcard, and an appeal to Chainlink members, to raise funds so that Active Transportation Alliance can put on another bike light distribution event.

Donate now. Thank you.

So far, Get Lit has raised $74 from six people. Thank you, everyone! We'll keep chugging along.

Pretty sure those are the lights that Rey Colon (Alderman 35th ward) bought from us with his money earlier in 2010 when he called and said he was helping with a "bicycle safety check" with district 14/ATA and wanted to buy some bike lights to give away to cyclists who were not aware of Chicago Bike Law regarding riding at night. Ride on Rey. Eric Puetz.

The coolest way to ride in traffic is to chill out. Easy to say and hard to master :) Ride on. Eric Puetz

It should be zen. As long as you control your space and options. Cars notice aggressive riders and ignore passive ones so, there's that. If you spend the majority of your time in the gutter/tunnel, you're maybe too chill.

The Buddha said that control is an illusion and that the persuit of such is the root of human suffering...

Ha, nice. I guess Buddha never rode a bike in traffic. Give me a week with Buddha and I'll turn him into a French existentialist communist.

If you see the Buddha on the road riding a bike I think you are supposed to kill him -or something like that...

I think this is a good idea but the phrasing "get lit" seems like this could be a full moon/murader ride. :p

Is the "Get Lit" campaign doing anything for next week?

I can tell you there's an event in the next 96 hours. Sorry, I can't reveal the date and location!
