help TSA Question (NBC : no bike content)

I am flying out of town tomorrow and have no idea what the airline / TSA restrictions are on taking a guitar on a plane. Can I use that as a carry-on bag ? (I will not check it)

Anyone done this ?  ( am visiting my elderly parents and will have a lot of free time

(to practice).  thanks in advance

p.s. I would much rather take my bike than the guitar. there is the bike content ;-)

You can take the guitar through TSA. You will want to check with the airline re: using it as a carry-on.

Hi, Dan-

 Check the airlines website for info. Rules have recently changed for the better, but you may want to be sure about your particular airline's restriction policies.

  I flew last month and got on the departure flight w/my bass guitar, but had to gate check it on the way back. Since it has a bolt-on neck I wasn't too worried about it. 

 I'd recommend at least a hard shell case for any instrument you bring on a plane.

Very little chance you will be able to carry it on; it is to big.

Definitely check with your airline. Someone carried a guitar on the last time I flew on Southwest. They were rocking out at Gate B32 before we boarded

You might be able to check it "plane side" meaning that sometimes there is a locker near the front of the plane for over sized things. I think its mostly for suits but I have had my mandolin checked there before.
