North Branch Bicycle Trail
Lake Cook Road Extension

The Forest Preserve District and Chicago Horticultural Society (aka the Chicago Botanic Garden) obtained federal funding to design and construct a new multi-use cycling and pedestrian trail extension along the Northern border of District land on Lake Cook Road, to connect two popular bike trails: the FPD's North Branch Bicycle Trail and the Green Bay Bike Trail. The total cost of the project is estimated to be $1,710,490, of which federal funds are expected to cover $1,154,101. The remaining costs are being shared by the FPD and and the Garden.
 
At today's meeting, the Forest Preserve District Board approved a cost sharing agreement with the Garden for the District's North Branch Bicycle Trail Lake Cook Road Extension.  Since much of the trail improvements will be constructed on land controlled by the Chicago Botanic Garden, their share of the expenses not covered by federal funds will be greater than the FPD's share, which is capped at $100,000.
