When a website that claims to be promoting local cycling in the city of Chicago has a banner ad for a site which is one of the many internet discount outlets that make it hard for local bike shops.
Way to go Chainlink, bravo. Is the advertising dollar worth making things harder on the local shops here in Chicago?
Is this site about serving the local community or is it about being a profit center for it's owner?

All I said was that I thought it was lame, all I did was express an opinion about that one thing. I don't hate the site, hate Julie , think anyone or anything is evil or out to get anyone. I just said I thought it was lame; probably one of the softest words of protest that exists...
Actually ...
"Way to go Chainlink, bravo. Is the advertising dollar worth making things harder on the local shops here in Chicago?

Just saying.
Hits are what keeps a forum going through ad revenue. Hits are what threads like this one generate a lot of. This is how the internet works.
So continuing this conversation is allowing the lame advertisment to get more eyes on it and thus getting the chainlink more money for showing it. This is exactly what the OP thought was lame, yet the discussion goes on. Is this a good example of irony?
That being said, I don't know what the particular ad is that was being discussed here or if it is still up. Im just giving an observation.
Also this has been one of the more interesting threads in a while. Not very informative, but very entertaining.
I'm going to do this tomorrow out of my own curiosity.
In related news Velocity rims will soon be made in the US again.

Pick up 20 random objects in Rapid Transit and record where they were made. I bet China/Asia is tops.
Was there a local/US option available, albeit at a higher price? Hmmm......
We do have some local made products and once tried to sell a line of made in the USA bikes but no one wanted them at the price required.

So you can post in it declaring it a stupid waste of time?

Well, it's buried in the "Behind the Scenes" menu. I don't routinely go poking around in all the menu links to see what's there. If something is really important, like the site needs donations in order to function, I would think that would be a bit more up-front, like the ads are.

It's been on the front page for a while now. To the right. I think it's on every page.

Dan Korn, you've just been unaware, very easily rectified.

Many users have probably been unaware they can support Chainlink directly!
You're right, I never knew that page existed. There should be a link to it from somewhere obvious, like the main page. That might elicit more donations, which may lessen the need for ads.
And I could be wrong again, but it looks like the particular ad which precipitated this thread is no longer visible.
The Local Bike Shops I Support and think are the best in Chicago:
1. Smart Bike Parts-Eric you da man.
2. Westtown Bikes
3. The Bike Lane
4. Yo Jimbos
5. Irvs
The Local Bike Shops I do not support:
1. Working Bikes==Customer Service sucks(everyone that works there doesn't have a clue in what they are talking about/sell nothing but overpriced garbage!
2. North/South Rapid Transit==Prices suck!
3. Kozy's==sucks in general it's like shopping at fucking walmart!
Before I forget, I think this thread is lame! I think Dug should create his own website and do whatever the hell he wants!
