Sorry to be a Debbie Downer, but this is a really fascinating map of nearly a decade of road fatalities in the US, plotted by mode of transportation at the spot of the deadly collision.

Strings of vehicle occupant deaths delineate highways, and the most striking thing is how vulnerable other road users are, whether pedestrians, motorcyclists, or cyclists.

And, as expected, NYC is a terrifying place to be a pedestrian.

In lighter news, few of you will be surprised to learn that I'm working at a bike rental shop in San Francisco! Today the highs were in the upper 50s, which should be reason enough for y'all to start planning a visit :)

Not to rain on your parade Lauren, if you'll pardon the expression, but in about two days, it'll start raining in San Francisco and won't stop until March.
