Barrington, a case of no communication
What Barrington is doing is nothing new in our area.
How I am looking at this now is how we the cyclist in all of our clubs
and teams need to stay in communication with ALL of the towns we live
in and ride through. All of this yelling and fighting does no good
since most of the towns think cyclist only yell.
Am I right or am I totally off base with this ?
Bob Hoel of the Elmhurst Bike Club and the advocacy team (which I am
on) has done a GREAT job trying to convince the Elmhurst city council
of cycling in Elmhurst.
This is the first step in convincing other towns on the cyclist rights
and needs.
Villa Park has just started this communication last night, I hope this
also goes well.
Can't we all just get along ?

I agree. I just attended a meeting at the ATA last night discussing bike education with the LAB and the LIB. We must police ourselves as well as educate drivers that their perceptions can be incorrect. That's why I still want to see the stats about the "survey", and discern if the complaints are valid or just inconvenienced soccer moms. Laws are already in place regarding operating a vehicle on the road, so if Barrington PD isn't enforcing them then that is a problem police professionalism not legislation.
It's hard to find a paceline that is orderly, or that rides reasonably close together. Cyclists are often simply unaware that their prescence on the road has an affect. As a driver I know this to be true, as a cyclist I avoid large unruly groups.
