Roll Beyond Coal - Chicago's International Day of Climate Action

I wanted to make sure all 6000 Chainlinkers knew about Chicago's International Day of Climate Action.

This event is part bike ride, part rally. On Saturday morning, cyclists from all over Chicago will converge on Daley Plaza. They will leave Daley Plaza at 11 a.m. to caravan to Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood and meet up with rally goers near the Fisk Coal-Fired Power Plant. Near Fisk, we will rally at 12:30 p.m. and then march/ride to call for an end to the toxic pollution from the Fisk and Crawford coal plants and current plans for dirty energy projects (Such as the Keystone XL Tar Sands Pipeline) and demand a swift transition to clean energy and jobs.

Moving Planet is a worldwide rally to demand solutions to the climate crisis. Chicago will be one of thousands of cities in hundreds countries participating!

As cyclists we are already doing our part for the environment, but our impact is summarily  negated by coal plants and other dirty energy. If we hope to mitigate climate change, protect the air (we love to be outside in) and the health of our city we must take a stand.  I hope to see all 6000 of you on Saturday!

Sounds good.  I'll be there and my wife will be too. That's two people so far.  Anymore takers?  See you all on Saturday!
I think this is going to be a great event!  It will be good to get out do something productive towards the problems caused by Climate Change.  Todd mentioned on the event page that he will be playing music and would like some track suggestions if you have any. Angie suggested we wear green and decorate our bikes with clean energy/stop climate change messages!  Does anybody have any great ideas for bike decorations and/or slogans/messages for signs and banners?
Looking forward to representing with the Foster Beach to Daley crowd. It's exciting to see multiple group rides forming just to get to Daley Plaza!
I will be at Logan Square for the 10am pre-ride...glad I don't have to back track to meet up with a group.

Great - it looks like 10 a.m. is probably the best time to depart by. So you can join Alberto and whoever else responds!,

I'd be interested in joining the pre-ride from Logan Square.

Thanks everyone who made it out today despite the rain!  Thanks to your help Chicago will hopefully soon be a coal-free city.  It was a pleasure to see so many enthusiastic folks! Be sure to visit the Moving Planet Chicago website to see pictures of today's event and to stay in updated on upcoming events and actions!
i had so much fun riding in the rain!!!
I agree riding in the rain was a blast!  I also enjoyed participating in a rally/march on wheels.  I have ridden in group rides and attended marches before but never did both at once! It was great to see how everyone had decorated their bikes and how the group spirit of the ride was focused toward a shared goal!
