A. Why do I live in Chicago again? Because it's flat, gray, and freezing?

B. I have GOT to get out on my road bike.
Yeah I definitely miss the days where I can just put my head down and start going without a care in the world not worrying about if I'll be cold...

and to think that used to be my back yard, hence the dumb stare when folks ask "why'd you move here?"

Ali, I'm totally optimistic that those days will be here soon!
Yeah, I remember my first tour in the mountains and realizing that A) nothing in the midwest can prepare you for riding up a mountain; and B) There is nothing better in the WORLD than riding up a mountain because you get to go down the other side!
While I agree that it's not exactly the same, training in some of those crosswinds out in the far west suburbs have gotten me through some pretty gnarly uphills.
I lived in Philly for four years. It's not mountainous, but it is hilly. And I hated every hill I climbed. But it was never boring.

So I did ride my road bike to work this morning. Unfortunately, my 10-year-old Ultegra shifters hate cold weather more than I do, and I was essentially riding a single-speed. Now that my bike has been in my warm office for a whole 10 minutes, it shifts easily. Sigh. Come on, warm weather.

(Terry, don't use this as an example of why I should buy a light tourer with bar-end shifters instead of STI. I don't want to hear it.)
sssshhh, the retro-grouch in me somewhere is sleeping.

Come to the southwest suburbs, Palos area. You can piece together 1500 feet of climbing in 30 miles, then head out to Lemont for more:) Hope you got out today 44 degrees felt like summer
