Here's a link to the Great Lakes Randonneurs

Most of the routes start in/around Delavan, WI, not far from Chicago.

"GLR is a cycling club which exists to promote and manage a yearly brevet series for randonneurs in the Midwest area. We are one of many such clubs throughout the United States and the world. The brevet series gives riders an opportunity to qualify for large scale international rides like Paris-Brest-Paris (PBP), Boston-Montreal-Boston (BMB), or any other long distance event

We welcome any kind of cyclist to come out and ride one or all of the brevets offered during the Spring and Summer months."

The next PBP is in 2011.

Have been to their website. Cool bunch of rides they organize, and yeah, nice and close to Chicago. We should organize a group to go up there for a few of those. Not sure I could make everyone one, but I'm game to try a few of the really long ones.
Wow, I have to edit better when I reply... What I meant was- I'm not sure I can make every brevet, but it would be fun to try a couple before I launch a whole hearted PBP qualifying attempt.

Bummer! The GLR domain is parked at godaddy.com now, apparently no longer available (as of 12/27/08)? Checking google's cache seems to indicate the site was last viewable around 12/19/08. Any news?

(edit: I'm being an idiot trying to past the google cache link here. I searched for "Great Lakes Randonneur" and the GLR site was the first hit)
This link works: http://www.glrrando.org/
They seem to be reworking their website. I remember the old one and this one looks better.
The first brevet of the season is April 25. A 200k. I am looking forward to going up to WI for it. Anyone else going?
There are some details that would need to be worked out, like getting to Delevan, but I'm defiantly interested.

Salvo, thanks for pointing out that the site is back. I'm reading all over it now, and I agree it does look different (and better) than I remember it being.

I'm interested in Delevan as well, although perhaps not defiantly so

I rode from Harvard to Madison WI recently, following the grey lines on my map. It was great, but I remember a recurring theme of "what, another hill!?"
Harvard (at the end of the UP/ Northwest Metra line) is less than 20 miles from Delavan. Assuming the weather is okay, that's an easy ride the day before the ride, if you're so inclined.

This is how I'm inclined, but I don't have a car. :)
I had no idea. sounds perfect! thanks for pointing this out.

Yes, I think that's a good one for sure!
I randomly ran into a guy this evening who knew an awful lot about bicycling in the Chicago area and beyond. I mentioned a desire to ride the Brevets this summer and that some of us had talked about taking the metra and then riding up to Delavan the night before. This fella gave me a lead on a place to camp up there if we are inclined. I'll follow up on this and get back to the group.
Would be great info to have, for sure. FWIW I think I may stay in one of the nearby motels before one of the longer brevets. Even 130 miles can be brutal if you don't get enough sleep.

I also may be able to take 1-2 more bikes and people with me.
