The Chainlink

Hey all,

My little brother's bike was stolen in dc and now he needs to buy a cheap summer replacement. Do any of you know of working bikes type stores in the metro dc area?

Thanks!

Katie - check out DC Area Bicycle Resource Needed and Sarah Miller's thread: Help with Bike Scene in Washington DC

oh man...I've heard of a lot of people getting bikes and wheels stolen from their porch.  I'm sorry to hear his got stolen!  It's hard to find anything CHEAP in DC.  I'd recommend going to Phoenix bike shop in Arlington...or cruising the yardsales/craigslist.

Good luck!

Papillon at Columbia Pike and Walter Reed Drive in Arlington has a modest selection of used bikes at reasonable prices. The staff seem pretty nice, too. Easy to get there on public transit, too. The buses that serve Columbia Pike leave from Pentagon or Pentagon City every 10 minutes or so. Also a short bus ride from Clarendon.
Not exactly a Working Bikes alternative, but District Hardware - The Bike Shop in Foggy Bottom had some refurbished old Raleigh and Schwinn type bikes this winter, not really cheap but not terrible, and rebuilt. They did a nice job fixing my bike when I was travelling through and they have odd parts on hand.  I know nothing about the alternatives though.
Wow! Thanks, all!
