The Chainlink

How about a meetup at RAGBRAI? Perhaps on Wednesday during the host towns party at the end of the ride? A meetup location could be posted on the board in the main campground.

Sounds good! I will look for a Chicago RAGBRAI meetup post on the board. There's also a RAGBRAI mtg. this sat on the calendar. Try to make it so we know each other's faces.
My wife and I would love to meetup, and will look for posts.

Sounds good to me too.

Yes!  Do you guys know if cell phones work on the ride?  Is it spotty?

I'm in! There were some places last year where our cell phones utterly failed (including one of the mid-day meeting towns). If you're riding with a team, it's good to set up a meeting location ahead of time if possible (e.g., "the first bar you see when you get into town") and not always rely on your phone. The message boards in the end town are also extremely helpful. But I do hope Michael's intuitions are right about this year!

Cell phones.  I hate them.  The only time I turn my cell phone on during Ragbrai is to receive the text message (which rarely comes on time) to tell me where our team bus is in whichever town our team decides we should meet up with.  The Ragbrai designated meet up town is a relatively new development, coincident with the tour director who came from that huge world renown tour in Florida.  Lots of changes happened with him and not for the better.

I don't get into town early enough to meet up but who knows, maybe.

I will create a notices that will have the Chainlink logo on it and post them on the message board  on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday indicating a meeting spot at the party in Altoona. We could meet by the main stage at a selected time; a time the will allow everyone to cleanup, take a break or eat. Another method of identifying ourselves is to place name tags with the Chainlink logo on the front of our clothing. The only issue I see with that is how do we distribute the name tags prior to RAGBRAI?

Maybe we can get something together by this Saturday for Chicago Area Pre-RAGBRAI Meetup.  Ideas anyone?

Once they are made, I can send some in the mail to others.  Maybe there is something people can  create themselves as well?

Waymond, would you be able to include something on the notices that anyone from the Chicagoland area is welcome to join us as well?

Excited to meet everyone! (I'm also a bit nervous for an entire week of biking and need to start training and getting my road bike in shape.)

Yes I can include that information. As for distribution of the tags I will talk to someone at Working Bikes (2434 S. Western Ave.) to see I could leave materials for people to pick up. I will be at Working Bikes this Saturday from 12:00 noon - 3:00 p.m. if someone wants to meet me in person, I intend to be at the meetup also.

I like the tag idea. It might also be fun to rock Chainlink jerseys... Julie, do you know if those will be restocked anytime soon?

My first year I had Verizon and that wasn't bad.  Then I went to AT&T (HAD to have the iPhone).  AT&T coverage is pretty bad over most of the state.  The last few years, I considered getting a pay per minute phone with Verizon or US Cellular.

I met a chainlinker named Bob who was looking forward to a meetup or two during the ride.
