my attempt at a rainwater catchment system.  it started raining 15 minutes after i finished it.  ill check it for leaks in the morning.

 

im still finding easter eggs in the yard, too

Intergenerationally planting corn kernels at our homestead last Sunday on May Day in West Rogers Park, 3003 W Touhy.

Weinstein Towers.  I used to see them out my bedroom window when I was like 4. The blinking red lights on top scared me.

Nice work. I would suggest thoroughly draining and storing indoors in wintertime or they'll be good for about one year before becoming brittle.

thanks, noted.  this bin will probably only be a single season receptable anyway.  Winston got to it before i did and the top, specifically the handles, are chewed up.  damn dog.

some progress on the garden.  stained trellis.  also ran the twine for the hop bines.  peppers are in the ground, mulch paths, corn is struggling but maintaining, and i have more thats still sprouting.  raspberries doing great, sethum is lining the fronts of the beds, baby grass is coming in where my room mate killed it, grass transplants are doing well, lettuces are starting to sprout, herbs like oregano, sage, and rosemary are doing great.

So it's not too early for peppers in the ground? Someone told me May 15th for peppers and tomatoes....it's my first season in this zone so I'm new to the time frames...Do you usually put peppers out this early? What about tomatoes? thx

i was a bit ignorant about timing on everything in the garden, truthfully.  the peppers are in the two front tiers of the middle bed. they seem to be doing fine. the only plant im having an issue with at this time is the corn.

The only reason not  to put something out right now is that last frost date is May 30. If there's no frost, the peppers will do as well as everything else and may benefit from the early start.

Really??? May 30??  whoops.  consider me a bit eager to get started so quickly.  the onset of spring does crazy things to us.
