The usual; busses and the imperial system.

Not to hate on your hate . . . but I like buses quite a bit.

I know it's not likely, but if you could ride around in a few and get to know some of the drivers you might see things differently.

hmm, I hate the buses because they're always stopping and cutting over into the right side of the road/lane. I hate following behind them, then having to attempt to maneuver around them when they inevitably stop in a block or two, and of course never riding along side them.

I've really got nothing against the drivers of the buses, I just think they're the biggest pain in the ass while trying to get around on my bike.

Bus drivers in this city are scary.   They are the most obnoxious and aggressive drivers I've ever had to deal with.  They get away with just about any behavior in this city it seems.  They take the "I'm bigger than you so get out of my way" school of driving and mix it with the Chicago union mobster mentality and "you can't touch me regardless how how bad I do my job or put the general public at risk" to a whole new level of frightening.

The last time I took a bus in this city was when the Blue Line was down for maintenance and had a shuttle system to get around the closed track.  The drivers (both ways on that round trip commute) were obnoxious and were honking their horns every 20-30 seconds and pushing their way through traffic in a way that I can only describe as maniacal.

Riding around the typical Chicago cage driver or cabbie is bad enough.  The bus drivers make them both look like Mr. Rogers in comparison.  I keep far away from the busses in this city.  The'll run your ass over just as soon as look at you.

re--the bike and bus situation. I agree that traveling down the same road as a bus can be a drag, but recognize that the job of a bus is to stop every few blocks. As someone who wants more people to be able to get around without relying on cars all the time, I salute and make way for public transit. When possible, I avoid biking on bus routes. . . except after snow storms, when I take advantage of the fact that those routes get plowed faster than others :)

When I do need to bike on a bus route, I adjust my tempo. Sometimes I wait so a bus gets far ahead of me that we are not competing for space, or speed ahead as fast as possible to get away. Doesn't always work, but that's just the price of sharing the road.

Still hating taxis and their passengers- especially since the man I love was doored by one of the idiots letting passengers off into the bike lane . Hate, hate, hate cab drivers and their stinky taxis and unaware passengers.  I have other reasons to hate taxis not even related to cycling, too. But taxis in general they make me fuming mad.

I'm sorry but I don't care what the bus does as it's 'job' because there is not getting around the fact that CTA bus drivers are, very often, aggressive and hot headed drivers.  I try to pace myself so that I am not constantly overtaking, or being overtaken by, buses but at some point and time you have to either pass or be passed.  I pass, and am passed by, far more cars than buses but it seems like I am forced to the curb, cut by to close or pushed into the lane by buses more often than I am cars which make me think the problem may be with the bus drivers.

I also hate buses, I have altered my morning commute to avoid eastbound Foster . There is a CTA barn at Foster and Kedzie and all the buses use Foster east to get to their routes. Not to mention the fact they stop and park at sheridan to get coffee at McDonalds.
Yes sometimes bus drivers suck but I've had many experiences where the drivers are super cool at sharing the road with me. I had one very bad experience when I wasn't even on the bike and the bus came at me and I had to pick up my bike and jump on the curb to avoid getting hit. I posted it on some thread here about a year ago. On my phone so I can't search for and hyperlink it.

I only hate one particular bus # due to the driver's behavior, and it has always been the same bus, at the same time of day. Not only did this particular bus almost crush me into parked cars as it passed me by (I was plainly visible in the middle of the day at the time) but it also decided to ride the entire way up Lincoln in the bicycle lane, whether or not it was stopping for passengers. Also, the one and only time I passed it while it was picking up passengers, the driver immediately gunned the bus, cutting me off from the bike lane, forcing me into the center line of the road as it took the entire lane, then when I managed to fall behind it, it swerved back into the bike lane again.  I won't name the bus or the number, as once I reported it to the CTA, I haven't had a problem, but the problem did persist for a few weeks before it suddenly stopped.  I think either the driver hit someone, or other cyclists must have reported this guy, as it was the same driver, same time of day and the same bus number in the morning. So, please note and report these crazy drivers, the bus number and time of day, as I do believe  it eventually gets some of them off the street. I called and I emailed. It may or may not work, but it is worth the time.

Oh, and I still hate taxi cabs more than anything else in Chicago, even that particular bus.

Are you talking about inches, feet, miles, pints, quarts, gallons...?

I hate taxis too for the same reason. This is why I think that its always best to go around taxis (pulled over inside of bikelanes) on their left hand side. I know this isn't always possible but this has helped me quite a bit.
