This has been a horrible season for flats. 4 flats in 3 months time. Usually I do get 1 flat/year.

Last Saturday I hit a 2" screw which drove itself into the sidewall within seconds. Luckily I was within a block from my home.

Can't wait for street cleaning to start up again

Mark--Maui on Friday?! You are going to have a great time!

I agree--it is fabulous out there! I had 2 flats last week. (4 total this winter.) I hope I can avoid that today. The wrench at the bike shop mentioned he's changed more flats than ever these past couple of weeks. One customer was there every day last week alternating front and rear flats!

Not to burst your bubbles, but it's supposed to rain tonight.  I've got an appt. about 6 miles away at the end of the day. Let's hope we don't get the cold, cold rain. That's the pits.

Great day to ride, but I am so over my snow tires. I am ready to switch back to my road bike. And best of all, I will be riding in Maui on Friday. Yes!
Rode in on the Lake Front Trail for the 4th time this year (deciding to give the bike a rest from the horrible streets).  The chunks of pavement south of Fullerton are being taken away...slowly.  The other trouble spot near the North Ave beach looks like a cow pasture.  Someone started cleaning up the blacktop pavement chunks but left them all scattered around the path.  It's times like these I really do feel like I'm one of the few...and I like it :)
I got a lot of flats too and I'm glad to know I am not the only one! I am also noticing that my brakes sound squeeky and there are some noises that don't sound right when I change to certain gears. I had the gears adjusted once this winter already but I don't know if it made a difference. I've been trying to keep everything lubed but I admit I only washed the bike once. I guess this means I need a wash and a tune-up but I keep expecting it to snow again. Anybody know of any tune-up specials that bike shops have around town? Also, when is a good time to tune-up for spring after the winter?

Rode LFP. Pavement crews were working on nightmare just South of Fullerton; Yay!

Agree w/Mark K, South of North Ave has shrapnel everywhere. Hopefully it's because crews are cleaning it up and will be gone this PM.

That is awesome news! I might have to take an alternate route home now.

Go Dave!

Yesterday was my first bike commute of 2011 (Yay finally). Overdressed & got way sweaty on the way in, but a good time was had by me. Bring on the upper 30s, I'm ready!

Today was my first ride of the year!  I'm so excited to be riding again and my dog is too!

I'm skipping my ride later today. I'm absurdly concerned with being pummeled with cold rain as the forecast on weather.com says 100% chance of rain! (When is it ever 100% chance?)

I'm glad to hear that people are being lured out by the Spring thaw this week! Next year, try riding in the winter. If I did it, anyone probably can.

I think the rain is supposed to start around 6:00 p.m. or later.  I am so happy that I get off of work at 4:30 and should miss it by an hour or so.  Oh, had the bike shop nearby fix my flat so I will be flying home and crossing my fingers that I don't get another flat on the way.

I notice that I'm looking down at the ground a lot more than ever these days, Melanie. The road is littered with cr@p. Have a nice flight home!

I would probably be coming home from Uptown at the time the rain is in full force. I'd worry that the weather would negate the whole purpose of my acupuncture treatment and I'd end up feeling worse.  Uptown to Logan is not a ride I want to take in cold rain. Nuh-uh.

After a spate of flats last year, I've been riding on Armadillo puncture-resistant tires. No flats since. Ride's a little harsh but I'd recommend 'em highly.

Doing the Haleakala downhill? Jealous.
