I think I may have had a bad can of Ice Wax Lube "eBay'd" onto me (except in a real live transaction).  I bought it at the Suburban Swap yesterday; metal 12 oz spray can like this:

2 problems . . . the red tube absolutely will not insert in the nozzle-- summn funky about  one or both . . . and the stuff smells putrid.  A little like the stuff they use for perms, on top of a chemical smell that is hard to describe except loosely a "fuel" smell. Or maybe biofuel made from rotten pineapples . . .

IN any event without the nozzle this thing is almost worthless . . . it seems to just shoot out almost randomly.  Anyone experienced either of these things before?

Thx . . .

Never used the stuff but was it a new unused/untapped can?

If it were me I'd be asking this question to the guys at Pedro's.  It looks like they don't even carry this product in that type of container any more looking at their web page of bike care products.  They carry Ice Wax 2.0 now...  Seems all their products have gone "green"and they are all in non-spray/non-aerosol bottles.

It sounds to me that whatever formulation they used might have come apart fractionally and separated in the can over time.   You could try shaking it really hard and gently warming it up in a bowl of hot water.  It may or may not help -probably not if has fractionally degraded.  It also sounds like it might have been used/sampled once or twice a long time ago and a tiny bit of the the waxy goop has dried up and plugged up the nozzle where you insert the red tube.  I'd try using Ammonia  to clean out the dried up wax in there while wiggling with the red tube so it can fit in.  Ammonia cuts grease very well -or use lemon pledge which works great cutting wax too when it is still wet.

But, in the end,  it looks like you got a bad/old can of product that may be beyond its shelf life (especially if it has been used once).  Maybe the guys at Pedros will smile at you and send you a free bottle of the 2.0 stuff as an act of goodwill?   Can't hurt to ask.

I happened to be at the Lexco wholesaler's open house last year where huge cans of this were among the discontinued items being sold for a couple dollars. There was obviously some kind of problem with it from the start.

I think Pedros moved on to Ice Wax 2.0, a more environmentally friendly lube. I use the 2.0 version and it smells like...mud. I dunno, it doesn't smell bad at all, just a faintly earthy smell. It's also super thick, like honey.

I think it's great, I use it on top of a dry lube once a week.
