Suggestions For Chainlink Bar Night

Hey Chainlinkers!

We are planning ahead for the year and want to reach out to you for suggestions on bars for our monthly bar night.

We want to hear what are your favorite bars in your 'hood that can accommodate up to 30 people. They don't have to have food, but must allow us to order for delivery if they don't.

The goal is to have all neighborhoods covered so please represent where you live!

Stay tuned and we'll be seeing you at your local bar soon!

you can't beat broadway cellars at the corner of broadway and rosedale (right next to moody's) when it comes to their $5 burgers and $5 20 oz fat tire's every monday night! they don't advertise this any more because it has become such a popular event. when the weather is good there's some outdoor seating out front on broadway and lots more on the rosedale side. you know a good place when you regularly find chefs from other places gathered around the tables on occasion. but why wait? consider it highly recommended!!!

Also, Edgewater Lounge. It has a nice backroom that holds a fair amount of people. Good beer selection, including PBR.

Oh, and it is crawling distance from my home

Carol's Pub has tons of seating/standing room and on Thursday nights great Karaoke - plus a pool table!

The Edgewater is really good the beer isn't cheap but they do serve food and for winter they have a fireplace in the back and you can reserve it.

Delilahs is a dive, for Lincoln Park, but Sarpinos is around the corner and they have Pac Man and a pool table upstairs plus a punk rock juke box/DJ.  http://www.delilahschicago.com/

Lastly Trinity on Halsted s/o Diversey is 3 levels again the bottom level can be reserved drink specials and food.

I vote for Big Chicks on Sheridan just north of Argyle. They have great food, relatively cheap drinks, fantastic artwork and a very festive atmoshpere with outdoor areas in good weather. Good red wine all the time at $5.25 for a full pour and on Thursdays they offer $4 cosmos, $2.75 Rolling Rocks, and $10 pitchers of Blue Moon. The owner, Michelle, is well known for supporting a number of charities and being an all around wonderful person. Plenty of room for our group.

For true dive bars, I am fond of both the Sovereign on Broadway just north of Granville and the Granville Anvil on Granville just West of the red line. Neither has food, but both will let you bring it in....the people watching at both places is great. These are both small, but I have seen 70 people in each at various times. Time out chicago says about the Anvil, "surely where Edgewater's gentrification will hold its last stand." i think they meant anti-gentrification movement, but you get the point. In full disclosure, the Anvil sponsors my volleyball team. Both bars offer a choice of good beer or cheap beer. The sovereign also has Malort, a favorite of the FBC, but they tend to sell a lot more Jameson's. The Sovereign has good wine, whereas the Anvil has Almaden for $3.75 a glass. Both bars have really good juke boxes.

For a unique experience in Edgewater, try Gino's North (unrelated to the Gino's pizza chain). It is all red leather and art deco with white statuary and a functioning water spewing fountain behind the bar. The drinks are cheap, the crowd is friendly and they have great pizza with crust made from scratch by the 80-something year old chef, Peggy (she has a pony tail, great legs, and I slow danced with her at her 80th birthday party).

Finally, i also like Ollie's lounge on Berwyn just East of the red line. Another Edgewater dive bar, but with great $4 watermelon martinis.

Outside of edgewater, the Candlelight on Western just South of Howard has great food and beer. It is not a cheap dive bar, but it is good.

Chicago has 3 "sides". Anything between the north branch and the canal corridor is the west side.
Simone's gave everyone who stopped there after a CM ride last summer a free draft beer of their choice.
I'm sure they'd be amenable to some sort of special. I think Lauren S knows someone who works there?

Bridgeport's new hipster bar Maria's at 31st and Morgan. Give me a heads up and I can see if Edmar will cut us chainlinker's a deal on bar night.

Berniece's Tavern at 33rd and Halsted $2.00 PBR's. Plus Stingo on Thursdays at 10 pm.

Kellys Tavern in the heart of Canaryville at 43rd and Wallace current specials, $3.75 pints of Goose Island Winter Warmer and Stella.

GOLD STAR: cheap as fuck, free popcorn, never mobbed, dog friendly, rad jukebox, bike friendly (they've hosted events before and there's generally a messenger or two shooting pool in the back), tamale guy stop

COLE'S: hella cheap, a pretty good beer selection, pool, back room that's always empty when there's not a show going on, friendly bartenders, tamale guy stop. I always joke that Cole's is my Cheers (where everybody knooooooows your name)

SOVEREIGN: As was pointed out it's pretty tiny but it also stays pretty empty until around 9 when people start trickling in; before then it's just a few die-hard dive bar alcoholics (and, uh, me). I love this place.

GOLDIE'S: It's kind of small but DOLLAR PBR EVERYDAY AHHHHHHHH. Pool and darts and somedays video games on the TVs above the bar. Dog friendly.

Oh yes,  Blind Robin on western is another good place.  On the south side, I second the suggestion of Maria's although it might be a bit small for 30 people.  On the other hand, they have great drinks at affordable prices and the place itself is rather interesting.  Jimmy's in Hyde Park is another good bar, they have 3 rooms so bar night could probably take one of them over.
