The Chainlink

While the city is completing its renovation of Wacker, all of the city installed bike racks and sign posts near my building are now inaccessible / gone.  As my building does not have any bike racks / bike storage area, I'm looking for some recommendations on where I might be able to park and lock my bike without having to park a couple of blocks away.

Is it bad to lock the bike to the chain-link fencing installed as a construction barrier?  (I'd be locking to the support poles, not to the actual fencing.)

Yes it would be bad to lock to the chain link support poles of the construction barriers. Can you find anything on Franklin? or across Wacker near the Starbucks?
You'd probably be okay locking to the fence a time or two (assuming the contractors don't have any heartburn with it,) but since this is temporary fencing, I wouldn't make it a habit of locking there.  You never know when they'll reconfigure or remove the fencing.

I can lock up at that Starbucks, but that is no longer just across the street.  I now have to walk a block or so to get around all the fencing, and I'm a feeble old man that likes to whine.

I'm thinking I'm just going to lock up to the nice new bike racks 155 N Wacker has installed on the east side of their building.   And then walk across the street to my building.  Stomp stomp pout.

Yeah, I'm sure that half a block or so can get pretty treacherous in the winter. Be careful. If the pouting remains uncontrollable, you may want to consult a physician. :-)

As a post-script, the city moved the bike racks from Wacker to right around the corner on Randolph.  Nice move by the city that saves me my pouty little walk.
