I rode to the train station, and should've put on a full rain suit just for the gunk that came back up at me, yuck.

streets by me (Hubbard between noble and wester) were super sloppy.  and my full fenders dont work.  i turned to look behind me and i got my googles covered in the goo.

Once again the city outdid itself. Despite the snow and drizzle, the streets were wet with water pooling in various places, due to the ridiculous amount of salt the City throws on the streets.

Once I got to work, it turned out that my rain jacket was covered with a layer of ice. You wouldn't know by looking at the street.

Traffic was really light. I thought I had set my alarm for the wrong time and had left an hour early.

I rode to lincoln park zoo for the zoo lights yesteray afternoon / evening. it was great riding home in the new snow flakes that were really fluffy. stopped a quenchers with my friend christine and had some great chili with the god beer...

I made it home on my road bike with no real problems around 6 when the snow was just starting to accumulate. After a few hours I decided to get back out in it on my mtn bike because the snow was just TOO fluffy looking. Unfortunately I ate it about one minute into the ride and lost the will to go very far. Sore knee today but no regrets! The ride this morning was very sloppy

Tolerable temps and reasonably clear streets up in AVille most days lately.  It's been fun!

I agree!  Didn't even wear gloves/balaclava on my way home tonight at 10:30 ish.  I feel like it is Florida!

Started later than usual today.  Saw lots of tracks on the Wells River bridge; nice!

Weather/traffic; not bad at all.

Look @ the "Chicago Bicycling Flag" thread.  There's a Chicago Bicycling patch being offered for FREEEEE! And it looks great.
I went down in the bike lane on Division this morning, I was slowing down for a stop sign and my bike slid out from under me on a patch of black ice.  Easy enough fall, but a reminder that the bike lanes and edges of the road tend to be icier and that brake rims can get slick easily with all the moisture and below freezing temps.

spent the morning so far with the Wood Dale fire department, paramedics, and a police officer.  Wood Dale Rd sides are covered up in slush, cars were not giving the adequate space today. i decided to take to the sidewalk...only the sidewalk didnt want to take me. it was a complete sheet of ice.  it was nicely plowed/snowblowed...but no ice treatment. i wiped out. i followed the philosophy of holding onto the bars. my left shoulder and arm took the hit. it happened almost in front of the fire department station. i eventually made it in through a call to the police, and they opened up to accept me and check me out.

i advised the city they gotta get someone to address the ice, but they pawned it off on the county's responsibility. im concerned other cyclists might encounter the same scenario.

Hope nothing's broken (body or bike).

Agree. The "sheen" on the roads was more noticable today.  As the salt water sheds off, moisture will freeze.  Good reminder to stay aware.  Hope you're OK.
