Working on nailing down the venue.

Please friend me to offer submissions, or write to ho.ardbikes at gmail-- or post -about- them here, but please consider saving your debut for the "big event" rather than posting it here first.

Fixed and fixed, many thanks.
I need to get this nailed down pronto.
George was a huge help last year and he's bopping around the orient this year so any help extra appreciated.
Never seen QS, sounds like a fine option.

Pssst.... link at top of discussion (to the event) should probably be to:

And the "This Thread" link in the event posting there back to here should be to:

Good stuff mentioned, of which I've seen most, so the new/lesser known are especially attractive. Lite as it may sound, I've seen Quicksilver (1986 bike messenger/life change/crime drama with Kevin Bacon, Jami Gertz, Paul Rodriguez, Laurence Fishburne, ...) twice this year, and will defend it as pretty good. Would gladly donate the DVD.

I've also been searching for "Pedalphiles" reportedly by Brian Standing, reportedly exists on VHS. No further info.
Edward (or anyone)-- just getting down to business here seeing what I can track down-- any cluse how I could get hold of a copy of Jitensha? It doesn't appear to be for sale. Thx

For Features:

Jitensha (2009, Japan)

"Jitensha" (or "Bicycle") is a story about Mamoru Amagaya, a young man struggling to find meaning in life. A co-worker confronts Mamoru on his apparent apathy toward life, and this results in Mamoru leaving his job out of humiliation. Now alone and without work, just as it seems that things could not possibly get worse, parts of Mamoru’s bicycle begin to disappear, one by one. In frustration, Mamoru leaves a note for the thief, begging him to just take the whole thing. The note left in response is signed "God", leaving Mamoru only more confused. At last, when the only remaining piece of the bicycle is a lonely bell, Mamoru receives an envelope, containing addresses at which each piece of the bicycle might be retrieved. Puzzled yet intrigued, Mamoru embarks on a journey to resurrect and reassemble his beloved possession. As he seeks out each piece of the missing whole, Mamoru begins to discover that he himself is in a healing process. As he puts his bike together piece by piece, he realizes that he himself is in the process of being reassembled in the same way, by one far greater than himself. (from the producer's website) (added June 2010)

B.I.K.E. The Movie - http://www.bike-films.com/

The film is a depiction of the Brooklyn chapter of the Black Label Bike Club (BLBC), a fringe network of tall bike jousters that combine and justify their medieval inspired competitions with environmentalist and anti-consumerist rhetoric and politically radical ideals.

Taking place in the context of the 2004 Republican National Convention, Fountainhead Films’ B.I.K.E. is a riveting look into the ways in which identity is important for a collective of fiercely independent people.

Hi H3N3, not sure if you got my email but Brian Vernor has made bike related films based on his site:

Where Are You Go looks great but it's not on video yet. Next year.
I've ordered about 6 or 7 films so far-- among them Pedalphiles on DVD, B.I.K.E., The Cylocross Meeting, El Amateur, The Flying Scotsman, Breaking Away, The Collective, Red Light Go, and Quicksilver.
You're all welcome to them at my cost after the 'fest. I figure I'll sell them on the Bike Winter table at the Chicago Bike Swap to try to recoup the cost.

More suggestions welcome. Are there enough folks out there who haven't seen Bombay Bicycle?

Now in my posession: El Amateur, The Flying Scotsman, Breaking Away, Pedalphiles.

The USPS seems to be making one last effort before it fades away into oblivion.

I started to watch El Amateur but fell asleep (for 4 hours).  Appears to be just the thing for my cold . . .

I received "The Cyclocross Meeting" today. A few more on the way.

I'm thinking it may be time to re-screen some of our old inspirational favorites.

We Are Traffic? Similar?  I've never watched "The End of Suburbia" through but I'm guessing many have.

Received two more today: Quicksilver, and Red Light Go. Only missing B.I.K.E. right now.

I own B.I.K.E., commercial DVD copy.  Would lend or dupe for the fest.  But gotta say, it's not pretty.  Well done technically, captures some strong drama among a freak biker type crew, but not uplifting.

I just happened to notice that one Monty Python episode is all bike.  Saw it yesterday as part of a marathon.  I think it's super funny and totally appropriate for the fest if there's still a half hour of need.

Monty Python's Flying Circus, Season 3 Episode 8, 1972.12.07, 0:32, "The Cycling Tour"
The trans-Europe adventure of Mr. Pither, his amnesiac companion, and their crash resistant food. The first series episode to feature a full length story.
Portions: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Grad9m2K5g0

This is a great suggestion (Re: MP) thanks!

I've heard BIKE is not a terribly satisfying film.

Do you own "We Are Traffic?"

Was thinking about structuring the day into different riding styles-- got Cyclocross, road racing, mountain biking, possibly freak-biking covered- that leaves transportational/lifestyle cycling.

Just ordered Jitensha from the director. Apparently he's cool about screening the film at Bike Winter Film Fest and would love to hear about it and the reactions.

Excellent, thank you!!!

Yes I have the commercial DVD of We Are Traffic (came with Return of the Scorcher).  It's such a cornerstone, I presume many've already seen or own it.  Am acquiring the Monty Python now.  I hold pretty much everything listed here, several due to this fest.
