The Chicago we need should have a bike shop in every neighborhood.
So at a minimum, regardless of what people think of Village, I'm grateful that it's a bike shop and not a Shell station.
And every neighborhood bike shop should ideally have a few taps running while you have work done; esp in winter!

Traditionally drinking all day was the refuge of bored bike shop owners through the winter months.
I like to think that they're staying somewhat busy with the advent of winter biking consciousness, but I don't pass any bike shops on my daily travels so I don't really have a way to gauge.
(Having the internet to play on probably helps too.)
I pass a couple, and they aren't very busy. I was in one last week and they were obviously extra happy to have a customer.

I stopped at my local bike store on Monday. They were wrenching, but when I asked, "Are you busy?" Both mechanics said, "No!"

If the bike shop served the beer, maybe that would help?

Shell station? I think I remember my great grandfather talking about those.
