Hello all,
I know these bikes are rare, but if anyone comes across one for sale in your travels, please keep me in mind:
I had one once, for several years, and it was stolen in May 2010 from my garage. I've spotted two others (both ladies', both black) in the city and have left notes for their owners, asking that they keep an eye out for a rogue "twin" black ladies' Dunelt (identified by mismatched brake cables -- one black, one white, as I had *just* had them replaced when it was stolen) that may very well be mine. So far no luck.
I've since inherited a little blue Schwinn but as you British riders know, it is just not the same. At all. I loved how I felt riding the Dunelt -- very proper posture and comfortable and secure, and that pleasant click of the three-speeds working their magic up and down the boulevards.
I am open to purchasing a new British bike (have been perusing the Pashley website every once in awhile), but more than anything, I miss my vintage Dunelt. It was given to me by a friend who bought it off of a guy years ago (probably stolen, unfortunately; at the time was careful to look around to see if anyone was missing theirs), and over the years I put a lot of money and elbow grease into making it nice. It's a 1963 and it's a beauty; decals intact, etc. I doubt I'll get it back at this point, but like I said: I'd buy any vintage Dunelt that anyone might come across for sale!
Thanks kindly for keeping an eye out,
Lauren V, honorary member of the BBC
