Global Spoke Card Exchange

This seems like fun. I'll be sending in a spoke card tomorrow.

"Global Spoke Card Exchange
Mail me a spoke card.
I’ll mail you one back at random.
Please include some postage in the envelope so I can mail it back.
I’ll even include a sticky-note letting you know where in the world it came from.
I am trying to make this global.
Please have them mailed sometime before Friday, December 12th.
Check back with the site. I am going to post pictures of each spoke card I get.
Depending on the turnout, I’ll post a new date and do the whole thing over again.

Man, I only have one I am in LOVE with. I need some more. I have the one from the election with obamas face on it and it says "believe"

Directly from wikipedia:

Spoke cards are used to identify competitors in Alleycat races held between bicycle messengers. Originally tarot cards were used, with the race number written on them, but nowadays cards are often printed specially.

The spoke card is wedged between the spokes of the rear wheel at the point where they cross each other. Although the spoke card is hard to read while the bicycle is in motion, it provides a cheap way to label them in the absence of a proper race number plaque under the top tube, and is less likely to attract the attention of the authorities than a number on the rider's back.

Many messengers retain spoke cards after the event, accumulating several on the wheel. Other fixed-gear riders sometimes fix spoke cards to their wheels as an affectation of messenger culture.

I use spoke cards basically as a "bumper sticker". I'm by no means an Alleycatter.

Oh this looks cute!

The cards on my bike are mostly from races. I have one that mysteriously appeared (someone stuck it there during a party) and that made me chuckle so I left it.

Slightly off topic, but... somebody stole one of my spoke cards! What the hell?

It was totally my favorite so I can understand somebody coveting it but seriously?! Spoke card thievery? Ugh! People.

And yo, my bike was in a garage with a million other bikes after Cranksgiving. There were thousands of dollars worth of bikes there and my li'l ol' spoke card was lifted. FROWN.

I seem to recall somewhere that spoke cards were meant to be taken and replaced by new ones somewhere...damn, I don't remember where I saw that being a popular trend.

Yeah it was taken at the after party... that's the most mind-boggling thing about it. Whatevs.

I mailed my spoke card in today. Actually, it was left in my bike while I went to see one of the films during the BFF. I guess it all works out. Hope I get something sweet back.
