Active Trans is planning its 2011 legislative agenda and we want your input before we head to Springfield to advocate on your behalf. As a regular cyclist, pedestrian and/or transit rider, your expert opinion can help us identify transportation priorities for our communities. Can cyclists make their wants a part of this amazing chance to actually elect a new mayor? Has Active Trans visibly motivated their membership in the past to get anyone elected? How many in Chicago members do we have? What would happen if a candidate had to make transit and cycling a priority to get elected?

Jennifer -- As a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, we're not able to endorse or promote any specific candidates. But we do plan to push city candidates for their views on transportation and to educate voters about where they stand on our issues. We are currently coordinating with other transportation/environment groups on a common platform, which we'll survey candidates on after the November filing deadline. We have 3,000 dues-paying members within the Chicago city limits, but our list of supporters who we reach is in the tens of thousands, and together with our partners we'll reach many more. And we know hundreds of thousands care about our issues -- the latest Census data showed over 1/3 of city residents bike, walk or take transit to work.
