The Chainlink

PARK(ing) Day is coming -- two weeks from tomorrow.  This peaceful, global event of reclaiming public space for the public (and not for private automobiles) is being planned in cities such as Los Angeles, New York, and Vancouver.  Yet, as far as my few Internet searches could pull up, there is no obvious web-evidence of 2010 Chicago PARK(ing) Day planning going on.

Who has heard of any Chicago PARK(ing) Day plans for 2010?

There is going to be one in Lakeview: http://strawville.wordpress.com/2010/09/01/parking-day-2-0-septembe...
"Lakeview’s public space will get a makeover on Friday, September 17, 2010 for PARK(ing) Day. We will host, for the second year, a temporary park for the day in front of Southport Grocery (3552 North Southport Avenue). Except this year our park will grow from three spaces, to encompass both sides of Southport Avenue and down the entire block." "Our PARK(ing) Day theme this year is a “Bicycle Refueling Station” featuring free food, live music, bike parking, and relaxation areas."

Also, UIC had one last year (http://blog.sustainability.uic.edu/2009/09/parking-day-at-uic-tomor...) and they're in the process of organizing one for this year @ west campus/medical district--parking lot at Paulina and Taylor (parking lot J?) I'll report back and/or post it as an event here once I learn more details and confirm the event.
We are hosting a block long park on Southport Ave, just south of Addison. We are expanding on last year's three space park to make one superpark that will be both sides of the street for much of the block. If anyone would like to join our superpark team please contact me.

Excellent excellent excellent!
Big Honking Street Party! Will it extend into the evening?

Our PARK(ing) Day theme this year is a “Bicycle Refueling Station” featuring free food, live music, bike parking, and relaxation areas. With a higher percentage of street space currently allocated to vehicles and gas stations, and only a fraction allocated to the public realm, the bike refueling station is the bicyclist’s non-gas, rest stop. Moss will “lease” the entire block of parking spaces for the day and convert them into a bike and pedestrian friendly oasis. The oasis will be complete with trees, shrubs, and green sod, donated by Grand Street Gardens and Lake Street Landscape Supply. The oasis relaxation stations provides a respite where weary bikers can kick-back and enjoy a cold beverage and a snack, provided by Southport Grocery, lounge on hammocks supplied by Uncle Dan’s Outdoor Store, and enjoy live music.
Our temporary park will have to be shipped back to the nursery around early evening, but no reason it cant move onto the sidewalk!
University of Illinois at Chicago's Office of Sustainability and the Urban Planning and Policy Student Association are hosting two PD events -- one for each side of campus.

Any other park(ing)s setting up in Chicago besides this and the Moss/Strawville/UncleDans installments?
At last check, Urban Habitat Chicago is PARKing in Logan Square
I got an email about this one:

For the 2nd year, UHC will participate in PARKing Day 2010

WHERE: (in front of) Revolution Brewing, 2323 N Milwaukee Ave (see map above)
