I can see why I don't see too many bicyclists on Western (Infestern) Ave.

So is that a place of drinking? or a post apocalytic velodome? or both?

I don't touch any of the 4-lane boulevards except for maybe a block at a time, in f-d up areas where all the side streets have been chopped off. (There's lots of those around).

I usually stick to Damen or Halsted for my N-S axis runs. California turns out to be a good alternative to Infestern, (except for the section where you have to jog over to Sacramento, south of Humbolt).
If you ever find yourself far south on Western, the downtown Blue Island area makes for a mellow ride.
Google Street View is great at that area.

Because that place is a dumping/recycling spot, if you are hoping to get a flat tire you most likely will.

BTW my list of fast and stupid crazy roads to ride on:

1. Western (Infestern)

2. Ashland (Assland)

3. Irving Park (Irking Pork)
