register them with the company for an extended service plan which will recuperate the cost if stolen.

I have used this locking skewer set for about three years now on my daily commuter. My bike is locked outside, in an unsecured area, all day. I typically only lock my frame with a u-lock, leaving the wheels secured only with the locked skewers. To date (knock on wood), I've not lost any wheels. Other stuff that I inadvertently left unsecured (e.g., bike computer, light, etc) has been taken from my bike, but the wheels remain unmolested.

The only thing I consider a pain in the a-- is when you flat. Lose that special key, or don't have it when you need to remove the wheel, and you're having a bad day.

Hmmm... I can't seem to find their wheel locks... Maybe I'm just being blind. Can you link me to the product you purchased?

I have been using those locking skewers for several years as well. They are recommended.

I suggest you stop at your local hardware store or Home Depot, and have them widen the hole on the key so you can fit a real keyring through it. The one that they give you falls off easily after a while, rendering the key easily lost. Write down the number from the key, and perhaps purchase one or two extra keys just in case. The keyring is the weak link of the package. Otherwise the skewers work well.
