i can't believe he had the audacity to tell the pedestrian "you weren't using a cross-walk." nice way to try and justify it. had that been an automobile, do you think the police would have cared more that the car was going the wrong way or that a pedestrian was jaywalking? hmmmmm....
Hilarious! I've played this through in my head (often on Milwaukee/North Ave) and pretty much reached the same conclusion, that pedestrians have right of way even when they are dumb pedestrians. However, in my experience I find that more often than not, jaywalkers who see me tend to give me the right of way.
The cyclist was not even looking. The pedestrian is out in front of him for a good bit... the cyclist was looking elsewhere. This was totally avoidable. The biker yells in surprise immediately before hitting the ped, not when the ped first steps out.

The two illegal actions are not equal and do not "cancel each other out". The ped didn't slam into the cyclist and send him sprawling. Swallow your pride and apologize.

Finally, the ped is like 55... hardly an "old man". He sprung back pretty well. Lousy YouTube whippersnappers.

If you're going to skirt the laws, you need to be extra cautious and courteous.
I think the biggest thing that makes it not 'cancel out' is the fact that when you go the wrong way on a one way street pedestrians, and motorists, entering the roadway are NOT going to be looking in the direction you are headed which means you need to be extra vigilante of not only people stepping out from behind cars as happened here but also of cars crossing your path at intersections and driveways because they are not going to see you because they have no reason to look in that direction.

When a drunk driver hits this dude and then says "well, you weren't using a red reflector in the back" I wonder if he will say that that accident cancels out too...
Why are spawning salmon the only fish that seem to be able to ride bicycles?
Maybe pedestrians should start carrying ulocks to bash stupid salmon bicyclists in the teeth with after this kind of encounter... (sarcastistic comment) I think the victim was the decent one with good behaviour. The cyclist was a total jerk.

As I see more people ride bikes I see a proportionate amount of bad riding behaviour occur as well. This guy takes the cake.

I hope he gets pulled over and given a hefty fine.
... and to publicly post his shameful act, wow, what a unremorseful shit.
i kinda think/hoped the footage was staged.
This cyclist is just a jerk. It's really sad he didn't even get off and offer any help to the guy he knocked over, I bet if this jerk got hit by a car because he's going in the wrong direction he would be the first one bashing the car hood with a U lock and calling for a lawer and a doctor... in that order

...I don't know why but I just pictured that "mayhem" insurance character riding this bike...
the ped or cyclist weren't upset about this, so why does everyone make a big deal here? Relax... Frankly I thought it was funny, so thanks for posting!
The video's been removed by the user. Gee, I wonder why?
