For some reason the map in the link defaults to Hybrid view. If you click the "Map" button it's a bit easier to see the route.

Huzza to Barbra for making an interesting and thoughtful map for this ride. It's great to see someone step up after having a not so great experience on a ride. It's also awesome that she did this with such foresight that others who don't like the route have plenty of time to come up with a competing route.

I'm a little nervous about crossing Lake Shore Drive because of what happened on the last 2 rides, but ending at the lake can be so nice in the summer. I'll make sure that I'm there trying to help at making the ride a success. I also think that Montrose is a great location for crossing Lake Shore drive because it goes underneath and winds a long way towards the lake. It's not as though we'll just be sitting right next to the Drive when we end.

And if people do choose to go on the drive and get arrested, then that is their choice. There should be a clear mass to follow and an end point. In May there really wasn't a clear end point, which is why I think the ride went onto the drive, I wasn't there, we were supposed to have an end point, but the front wasn't clear on that ride on where it would be and a single person waving hundreds into Lincoln Park didn't work. I believe that something happened in June. For July we have several people who are committed to a peaceful end.

Does that make those people Leaders? I don't know, it's quite possible that no one will follow. These folks weren't elected and are taking it upon themselves to make a pleasant experience for all. Thanks again, Barbra!

There's another way to look at this, Gabe. The sooner CCM can demonstrate some responsibility with respect to forbidden zones, the sooner relations with CPD and the city can be repaired/restored. As of yesterday, the CPD had no plans for an increased police presence on July CCM. The map in its current state bears a warning to stay off LSD. I recommend that the police get a copy of the map at least a couple days in advance with the understanding that ramps onto LSD will be corked and to give the CPD the opportunity to do the same. Barbra did a nice job. Give it a chance.

You have an underwear theme that no one is gonna know about and many of the thousands you referenced will never know. They will come on the ride and go home wondering why that idiot on LSD was drunk, in his underwear, getting the crap kicked outta him by police.

And the corkers you are planning on having at LSD to keep people from goin on is a fail. Ragbrai will have many of our experienced riders, and if the police get a wiff of the Mass goin there they will have it blocked off anyway.

And every mass is fun so saying you are planning a fun mass is redundant.

Avoid 1 problem like Lake Shore Drive and you make yourself a better leader. Take everyone there and you are trying to get into trouble.

And whatever you wrote as a reply is some awful mix of happy, condescension, and an attempt to stay cool all at the same time. It's awful. Argue or be happy or be insulting but don't try all of it so that you are still somehow cool or neutral. Being a leader would mean sticking your neck out and possibly not making friends, or worse angering a friend.

(Gabe, love you like a brother, and Barbra like a sister, you two should party.) Its true that a reasonable MOST conciliatory message would be to avoid LSD entirely this month, and was discussed, with only narrow consensus. Route dev is a balance of compromises, and weighing heavily was that avoiding LSD inherently bars the lake, which is too big a compromise in summer, so must be balanced with responsibly corking (I've personally committed to blocking southbound on-ramp at Wilson), and telling CPD in advance about Wilson, and mass dictum.
I appreciate bold statements, makes it easier for me to note, we *could* consider pushing this to August. Personally, pre-riding the underwear/Montrose route it felt a tad maze-y and long (and bad skater bridges), ie. could use tweaks. That also let's H3's prize contest run it's course, and gives more time to promote so people know it's in underwear, and is August even hotter?

I'm up for July OR August. But I honestly think there is enough time to 'promote' underwear for July. But if I don't commit to following through, who will? and will it be another disaster?? What would July mass DO without me??!! (he he he) I also don't feel comfortable into being bullied by some no-alternative-plan hater...Gabe's ONLY valid point in my opinion is the ending at the lake...which was my ORIGINAL concern and plan...to end elsewhere and even had a map for it but since this is LEADERLESS I decided to not be closed-minded and self-serving and take others' perspectives into consideration. (My original ending point was 4 blocks from my house in the middle of the city while this is many miles from my pad!) Evidence of the LSD concern is somewhere in this thread, I believe. But I now agree with Kevin, it's a great chance to prove to CPD that we can get back on track by our own accord. And Montrose Beach/park is so incredibly beautiful and I don't think I saw any gang-bangers, either. Are we still doing education at the Plaza with a PA system as discussed at the strategy meeting? Someone could tell folks that whoever leads them onto LSD is the least likely to get arrested or hit, but if they follow, they have a good chance of it! Gabe, will you volunteer?

There will be people leading the ride who will not be taking 7 days off to ride Ragbrai. So there will not be an issue with finding enough people to cork the drive. And I do enjoy the accusation. Let's play the alterior motive game Spencer. You work for a group called Cop Watch and you are deliberately YEARNING for the mass to go back to LSD. Hmmnnn... Let's see who might have a motive here. I mentioned the theme of "underwear" cause that was the reason i was given for the mass going to the beach. But now i think you just may be itching for another crack at the cops. Is this gonna be your big break buddy? Good for you! Are you risking someone else so you might be in the spot light? It sure appears so. And while that person is getting there brains beat in cause they are a deserving idiot for riding onto LSD - Where will you be? Hiding behind a cell phone camera. Yelling "police brutality". When you should be just as accountable. Lead the drunks near LSD and hope for the best sure seems like the idea for Spencer.

And Jason W, WHO ARE YOU? Damn right it's not the police at fault for some dumb ass trying to get onto LSD. You another cop watch fool? Looking for your 5 seconds at someone else's expense? What I've expressed to enough people at this point is that the end point is awful! Beyond that fly kites from your belly buttons while playing the mandolin. It just looks like you are looking for a fight and you won't even be in it, you'll just be recording it.
