The Chainlink

My commuter bike got stolen off my deck in Edgewater this weekend.

It's a black Specialized Allez with a yellow chain, and yellow/black bar tape.  At the time of theft, it also had egg beater pedals and a giant u-lock on it.  Here's a picture:

If you see it, please email kcarolan@gmail.com.  The bike was on the 3rd floor landing locked to a railing post, but they drilled the railing out from the banister and lifted the bike off.  Doh!

Appreciate the suggestions. Thank you!
Hmm I saw a bike with a yellow chain like that infront of the 7-11 on milwaukee & wood , don't remember it closely though. Not sure how common yellow chains are, I'll see if its still there after work
We have not yet received a report to the Chicago Stolen Bicycle Registry.
We've got a crew working on getting people's bikes back to them but without a registry report and a police report number there wouldn't be much we could do if we spotted it.

I can't blame someone for wanting the maximum exposure to their freshly stolen bike, but I wonder what people think about having one thread that each bike gets added to, like they do on most other fora e.g chifg?
that'd be awesome. thanks for keeping an eye out!

seems many decks/landings are being targeted.
Yes, in the Ravenswood/North Center/Lincoln Square area specifically.
Or maybe better expressed, on a line with the main east-west streets from about Lawrence to Bryn Mawr. I believe that recently some (small percentage of) junkers have branched out into bike theft and trafficking (they're not scrapping them) to make ends meet (it's become otherwise not sustainable due to the poor demand for metal.) Would be great if people could give a little extra scrutiny to anyone appearing to be working an alley with a truck.
There also may be a used bike store somewhere around the 5800 block of N. Western that may unwittingly purchase bikes from such individuals-- may be a good place to check because I'm sure they'd be very eager to get a bike back to its rightful owner if they discover it's stolen.

We would be happy to add any info after the report is posted at any time.
I have also been very frustrated with 311-- it just seems to be out of service for good parts of the day. Late at night is the best time, and the overnight people are much easier to talk to, and a little better at problem-solving than the daytime people.
Recently I called 911 and it rang 30 times and ultimately disconnected. Scary.

At this point in time the thieves at Swap-O-Rama are being very careful about the bikes they put out on display; if your bike is spotted every effort will be made to secure it for you as long as it's on the registry and you have a way to prove it's yours (receipt with a serial number.)
