Planning thread for July 30th 2010 Chicago Critical Mass.

In the recent "Critical Mass Strategy" discussion, Barbra mentioned hints of her desire to do a map for July's CCM, with an underwear theme.  She's certainly capable, having participated in WNBR-C and CCM for several years, and the theme is certainly appropriate for hot weather.

So with just a few weeks to go, I'm proactively seeding this thread for discussion and planning.

I can as well :) That's super pro doing it a full two weeks in advance. I'm used to week-of, mainly just because the routes not ready, but also so we find last minute changes to road conditions. And slipping the time a little later might be better for some drones. But rockin, looks like you made my Monday, July 19th, 5:30pm, Daley Plaza.
Great Andrew! I'm a little itchy to get this flyer out and circulating which is why the early preride...I have it almost made but want to do preride first to finalize route.
How many people are going ? I never met any of you before but I guess I can just look for a group of bikes.....Are we ending at Montrose? I just need to figure out parking since I'll be driving in straight from work (Elgin ) Thanks
Do you live in Elgin too? I would say if you do, or if this is causing you to drive more, it's unnecessary...one great thing about critical mass (first timers especially) is that it goes slow enough for you just to relax, be social, and enjoy. Having rode the course previously is unnecessary and you'll be getting a map the day of. Also, my proposed ride might not even "win" and come to fruition. Of course you are totally welcome, just sayin', I discourage driving for this...especially since CM is all about getting the message out about driving less, would seem kind of silly.
We''l be staring at Daley and I am going to go the whole way and end at Montrose. I think about 4-5 people are going.

Pre-ride weather report. I tend to get riled up about weather reports but just sayin'...from 6-9 there is 30% chance of precipitation/isolated t-storms...after 900: 40-50% chance precipitation/scattered t-storms. It seems we might just get our ride in under the wire before nature blesses my garden...but what is our plan if the sky looks imminent or if it is already raining by 430-5-ish. Am I being a baby? I can start an hour earlier...can anyone else?? I really want to get my map out so I am hoping not to have to reschedule...
You guys may have seen this, but how about incorporating this into the derailleur or map?

If schedule allows and it's not too hot I may ride the first half of the test ride too.

If it starts raining I'm making a b-line for a bar. ; )
I'll be drinking with Spencer.

Unfortunately, I can't leave earlier since I'll be coming straight from work. I'm okay riding in the rain, but I know it isn't the most pleasant thing in the world.
Probably too late to change time since a very few may not re-check last minute. "Isolated" t-storms we can hope will just give us a few cooling moments. I expect to stick to plan. Might help to leave by 5:45, not dawdle, do 9mph, and we'll be done near 8. People could even peel off at Addison and I +any can complete Ravenswood/Montrose (I ride those often).

Nearest bar to Daley Plaza is of course: Cardoso's Pub, just 2blks W at 170 W Washington. Downstairs, has chow, and gotta love the irony of "car" in the name.
