Has anyone here had bursitis of the hip?
How long did it take you to heal?
What seemed to work?
Who did you see?
Did you stop riding?

Here is a link to a helpful website about bursitis.

Never had that but I once came down with a nasty case of Hipsteritis
Hipsteritis can easily be cured with a few steps. 1) install brakes on your bicycle 2) learn to get on and off your bicycle without lifting your leg over your handlebars 3)there are salves and creams to get rid of the rash those wool knickers have caused and 4) get a job

I believe male hipsters must also shave their beards in order to fully cure the condition.

I've had bursitis in other joints as well as golfer's and tennis elbow. Ultrasound and accupuncture worked wonders for me and for that I go to Balancing Point at Lawrence/Broadway. I really like that place.
Good to know . . . I perform ultrasound on tennis and golfer's elbows and I'm never quite sure whether it helps . . . if you still see the same therapist I'd be interested to hear what settings they use-- duration, watts/cm2, percentage.

If you're talking about Dr Terry Nicola at the Sports Medicine clinic at UIC I totally second Dan's recommendation. He got me through both a stress fracture & a torn meniscus.

wow great links and recommendations, my girlfriend has it and it stops her from running and even walking for long periods. But she can commute on her bike to work, sorry i have no advice since she's had it for years and not much has helped.

I sent her the link and will also tell her about dr. terry nicola.

now if only someone can fix my itbs!
hey lady, is this for you? can we discount any relation of this symptom with pregnancy?
Hi Julie,

Sorry to hear your hip is jacked up. I'd recommend Dr. David Hoffman at Chicago Orthopedics & Sports Medicine. He pieced me together last summer when I broke my leg. He's a fantastic doctor/surgeon and funny as hell which helps when you are in pain. I went to his location at Halsted & Wellington but he's got one on Ravenswood, too. http://chiorthosports.com/physicians/d-hoffman.shtml
