Any suggestions for riding in windy weather? Should I use a heavier bike in windy travel? What gear should I be in? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Get low, and tight clothing is a must here!
I usually try to eat some pasta the night before, and wear gloves. In all honesty, remove all the crap you don't need, wear form fitting warm clothes, grind away and think how good it feels. I swear I had no problems with any of the hills out west because of the tough conditions I learned to ride in (snow, wind, ice, hail, etc. etc. etc.)
Hahahah!

1) remove disc wheels
2) ?????
3) profit!
One final word of advice for windy days: carry a CTA card. There's nothing wrong with throwing your bike onto a bus to tackle those dreadful headwinds. Think of the bus as your ski lift: it takes you uphill (into the wind) so you can turn around and ski back down the mountain (ride with a strong tailwind).
Good advice mister bob - this isn't a wind related problem, but a while back I busted a spoke right in front of a bus stop as the clark red line express was pulling in. what timing!
