Some of the Marauders witnessed an individual who was a victims of a terrible crash. The way his head and neck hit the pavement looked critical. Does anyone know what happened to him? I'm concerned and haven't found anything out on the internets.

I too witnessed many crashes on this year's LATE ride, but probably not the guy you're talking about.

Before I got to the rest stop, on Irving and California, I was on the phone with one of my friends who I got separated from and noticed a lady next to me. Her head bobbed a few times and I thought to myself, "That's weird". Next thing I hear is a loud "CRUNCH" and she had face planted on the pavement. She had a helmet on and everyone around me stopped and rushed to her aid, but she was face down on the street and unconscious. A few blocks down I spotted the Marauders and pulled over. I saw a guy pass me up who also witnessed the crash and stopped to help her and he said that she was dehydrated and she either broke or separated her collarbone, but she was okay.

I also witnessed the aftermath of a big pileup on the LFP. As my friends and I cruised down the poorly lit path we rolled up upon at least ten bikes scattered along the left side of the path and I noticed this boy/teen with his foot totally twisted 180 degrees. We kept going and an ambulance was driving along the path towards the scene.

Some brutal scenery on this year's ride!
I have heard a few reports of lack of water on the late ride. i guess they couldnt get enough High Fructose Corn Syrup stands up in time, so then scrapped the whole rehydration concept. Way to go MickeyD's!

McDonalds' was not sponsoring this years ride. This year had a larger than usual group. So typically there would be more carnage with all these SUV bikerack loading weekend warriors.
Yea, the LATE ride was not so much a ride this year as it was a a recreation of normal Chicago traffic. Bumper to bumper, stop and go. Lame. I'll stick to riding on my own, thank you much.
It was my first and last LATE ride. Very unenjoyable. I'd rather ride in Critical Mass.

As for hydration, I felt we were guinea pigs for weird bottle/canned beverages. At the start they passed out cans of a lemon/cucumber flavored water (bad). At the rest area various flavors (cherry, lemon & lime ) of a mint based water (very bad) and samples of a femented natural soda. At the end warm soy milk, warm chocolate or vanilla shakes, and a palatable peach kefir smoothie and a chunky pineapple/banana fruit drink (only thing I really liked).

Missed all the mayhem since after the rest stop I tried to make time and beat most of the crowd.
I packed my own hydration and ended up very well hydrated, in fact, probably too well hydrated. This ride looked like a hellish time unless one is with a good group of folks.

Jebus! That beverage list makes me sick just reading it!!
I asked at the rest stop if they had any water-flavored water, and got just a blank stare.

I missed the start (was cruising around the Transformers 3 mock-damage), and hit the end early (relatively, for me) because I wanted to get away from the folks out for their first ride of the year.

Not sure I'll be doing the late ride again.

So then know one knows anything?
so no one brings their own water bottle anymore?
does hydration really mean just plain H2O or real refreshments thanks to the Miller family?
see...a number of us were in fact hydrated...but what im suggesting...if you are PAYING to be on a SUPPORTED ride of this type of ride at NITE when many places are closed and you cant really refill, yes, there should be water provided.

Many of these riders couldnt even ride in a straight line (and they were sober), and i cant imagine many of them were seasoned riders with the capability to pack a few liters of water or own a camel back. im not saying evreybody...but i am saying MANY.

for many, this was a distance they are not accustomed to, hours they are accustomed to, a mass of people they are not accustomed to

should i bring my own food to the restaurant?
