The Chainlink

I found a bike on lawrence near the post office (between western and rockwell).  Would really like the bike to be returned to owner. Figured I would post here and on craigslist, any other suggestions?

True, the internal search needs some kind of attention I'm not technical enough to give it . . . but wouldn't one's first step be to try to google it? And didn't I mention that?

problem is that you need to search in google! searching in the registry gets you nothing!

Not to be a buzz kill, but I've now learned which bike this is.
It was listed on the Chicago Stolen Bike Registry almost immediately on June 27.
If you enter "Stolen [make] Chicago" in google it's the very top hit.
Had you looked at the Registry before starting this thread you would have seen it on the first (most recent) page, maybe even at the very top.
Would be interested to know where the search process faltered?

Just spoke with Mia, it was in fact stolen and presumably abandoned after getting a flat on not having the right shoes for clipless pedals.
Thanks to everyone for keeping this thread alive until Zach saw it.
Yeah, I assumed when I saw only one entry from that date and then it jumped back a couple weeks that it had not been reported

-- Michael was this your specific problem?

Hadn't had time to do the math . . .
It would have been somewhere between 10th and 12th listing down the first page when you started this thread . . . any suggestions on how we could make the site easier to use?
I can find out if it can be set to display by date of theft rather than date of entry-- need to think through the pros and cons though (help appreciated.)

Didn't realize the site displayed things out of date order.

The site should be database driven (if it isn't) and allow you to sort by date stolen, date entered, area stolen, etc. Really, you should be able to order and filter by most any attribute. Someone could use the Google Maps API to show the location of each theft as well.

Thanks, Joel!
I started a thread in the bike theft group a while ago to track suggestions for the next time Paul (the tech guy) has time to look into revisions/upgrades-- I copied your comments over.:

If it is a redline could be mine.
Sorry Daniel, the bike in this thread was claimed.
The same Redline has been seen at Swap-O-Rama several weeks but it's red with a white panel and black letters (i.e. not yours). It went home with a new owner today . . .
