The Chainlink

Forecast is for a bit of both rain and shine (isolated t-storms Fri/Sun, clear Sat).  I'm headed there regardless of the weather.  Need to declutter, too much urban detris in my head.

Headed to the National Park campgrounds early Friday afternoon.  They don't take reservations.  $15/night (cash only).  The State Park is already full.  They take reservations.

I intend to go hiking, enjoy the surf, hit the nature center, maybe putter around Chesterton a bit or go to the water park.  Open to other suggestions.  If the National campgrounds are full, there are nearby (cheap) motels.

Any takers?

For those who want to bike to the campgrounds, there's a link/route below.  For others, South Shore train goes directly to the campground (Beverly stop).  Regrettably, only folding bikes on South Shore.  There's a convenience store near the grounds for eats, otherwise its byo or bike/hike to Chesterton/Michigan City (both nearby).

Relatively new to this group so I'm not sure how quickly Chainlink forwards posts.  If you'd like to contact me directly, feel free to drop a line at free.ez.spirit@gmail.com

Peace,

David

Hey! Paul and I are going camping at the Dunes this weekend too! We made a reservation at a nearby campground for Saturday night, Sand Creek Campground, and will camp at either the state or national state park on Sunday. Shar is driving up to meet us Saturday. There are still spots available there, and we have room on our site if you want to join us. :)
If you get a spot at the national park, we'd love to join you there!
Thanks so much for this map! Oddly enough google's bike there option comes up with the same route sans narration.
Hey Paul/Sarah! I'm headed out this afternoon. If you'd like to connect drop me an email with contact info. Best, David (free.ez.spirit@gmail.com)
Hey David, how did it work out for ya? We ran into a couple other chainlinkers, but didn't see you!
Cell phone died Friday night, no means to connect. Sorry. I had a great time though. Rode out two storms, enjoyed the beach, and, surprisingly, made a couple local friends. Good weekend.

Hope you enjoyed it too! Another time? I'm headed there again soon.
Wish I could go but I'm a seasonal worker, and this is my season :-(

But you asked for a hello, so HELLO :-)
For the dreamers among us......

Just ran across a "grand vision" of biking along southern Lake Michigan. I'd heard rumors about this trail. Good to know it might become a reality some day soon.

Rumor has it the trail might incorporate cultural heritage sites like Underground Railroad passages and history of steel in the area. Cool!
