Has anyone done any cycling in this area? I'm wanting to take a road trip in the next couple weeks and I'd like to ride my bike along the way. I only have a single speed. Is it too hilly?
The rail-to-trails are pretty flat because they've been graded to RR standards, but the surrounding country is pretty hilly.
Can't speak to Trempealeau County, but the "400" Trail is a very pleasant (and rails-to-trails flat) ride through highly scenic country in SW Wisc. Wonderful places to eat & drink in LaValle (River Mill) and Reedsburg (Try Pete Peterson's hand-crafted beer & great burgers at Corner Tap). Trail's only 22 miles long, but highly recommended.

I'd second what envane said. But it is a great area for biking. There's a great rails-to-trails path, or rather 4 linked paths, that goes thru Trempealeau. Check out http://www.bike4trails.com/ (the Great River State Trail is the Trempealeau segment). The whole thing is 101 miles of flat, well-maintained, crushed limestone paths. It goes thru many small towns, and the eastern half (the Elroy-Sparta trail) goes thru three cool old railroad tunnels, one a half-mile long. Definitely worth checking out.
