The Chainlink

I am sick of paying $60 plus another $25 in fees and taxes for my Sprint phone each month. I have 500 minutes, of which I use maybe 70 each month. Its a waste of money and I need another option.

I would like to know if anyone is on one of those prepaid plans. How is the coverage and how does SMS text messaging work as far as what they charge for it?

Thanks in advance guys.

Vando,

Pay special attention to the posts regarding Page Plus Cellular. It's the cheapest if you play it right and uses the Verizon network which is absolutely flawless in our part of town.

BTW you can go with Verizon directly and get 450 anytime minutes for a $40 plan, add $5 for 250 texts-- if you're employed their rep can probably find something close enough to your employer in their database to give you a discount.
I switched from many years with AT&T a few months ago and Verizon's been great in many ways.
Get rid of your cell phone entirely and look up from your palm and see the world untethered by an adult pacifer. I got rid of mine two years ago after ten years and it was one of the best decisions I ever made.
Cool thanks H3, Page Plus seems to be right up my alley. I have to call them up tomorrow and ask all my questions before I decide. Ten bucks every three months to keep it active and 11 bucks a month for 2,000 texts is almost too good to be true.

Thanks again, I never even heard of them before!
chixieonfixie's suggestion is the best! but I lack the strength to pull that off. I do rarely pick up though if that counts for anything.

I'm using Boost and I've had no problems with it*. 10 cents a minute and 10 cents per txt. I've never had a problem with coverage, but I have not traveled since I got it. It is owned by Sprint so it uses the Sprint network.

I recently switched from Virgin Mobile after they raised their rate to 25 cents a min for the first ten minutes a day. I rarely exceeded ten minutes a day.

I'm averaging less than $10 a month.

If I had known about Page Plus before I switched to Boost I probably would have went that route. wah

*it is HUGELY annoying that the phones are locked down, but I think that is case with any of the pre-paid phones.

Do you have a land line?
I use T-Mobile's prepaid. $30 cheap nokia phone + $100 phone cards (purchased online at callingmart.com for $96). You get 1000 minutes that do not expire for a year (9.6 cents a minute). I buy another card every 3 months or so. I also dropped my phone out of my pocket awhile back and it was nice to just go buy another prepaid phone for $30 and have my credits and number transfered over within minutes. Coverage is good, I have never had a problem. I transfered my number and service awhile back because I got sick of seeing a $29.99 a month plan cost me $44. Text messages are 10 cents I think. It is a great option for me. I do not have a land line, but I use skype for my international calls.
texting was about 3cents a message. Phone calls were about 10 cents a minute. I got rid of it when started using cell phone more. If you dont use phone often it is cheaper however.
I use the T-mobile plan. I think my level of phone usages is about the same as you described. I bought one $100 prepaid card in September, and i'm still using it now (45 minutes left). I think i was paying at least $50/month; now that has been cut roughly in half.

The only caveat is that you must be careful about over using texting. That can add up the charges quickly.

You may look into a unlimited call, text, net package. I think there's a few out there for around $60.
Yes. Are you getting fresh with me?
