Okay so above is the map for tonight's "Ring of Fire" ride. Thanks Andrew for all the help!
WE NEED "ROUTE LEADERS!" So if you want to be in the front, be the center of attention and would like to direct traffic please contact me at spencer@uglatto.com or call 1-312-725-6661. You'll get a lamented flyer out of the deal!

If you have a sound bike and want to sync soundtracks you can download the Best Damned Halloween Mixtape Sides A and B, here and here.
The Yes Men! are reported to bring their survival ball to Daley Plaza around 5:30 and play with us until we leave. It's possible they have something clever in store for us because they are supposed to ride off with their ball so I think this silly thing has wheels! Maybe we can convince them to join us on the first leg of the trip.
Alex Wilson of West Town Bikes fame is running a "Momentum Mori" which is a memorial ride for the cyclists who have been killed around the city. Inspired by the Ghost Bikes. Come join us for the procession this Friday, October 30th. They will meet at the Northwest corner of Clark and Randolph at 5:00pm to assemble for the ride. Dress in all white, as glammed up or ghouled out as you would like.

I feel like the ride has got to end somewhere awesome. Under a bridge, assuming most people stop at mile 16 which is fair, just doesn't seem like a good spot. Is there anything happening in this city that could accommodate about 500 cyclists? : )

OR the event should end at a cemetery?

Here is a list of events, http://chicago.metromix.com/bars-and-clubs/roundup/chicago-hallowee...

I already have a couple ideas for the map. What is the best size? Half page? Quater? 1 third?
Status: "Flaming Mass" (r4) replacement (ccm20091030d) in work. Route now misses all ghost bikes, serving negative feedback on that element, and restoring originally planned "Fire" related theme. (KML draft)

Most parts are so often ridden by we involved, that pre-ride does not seem absolutely mandated. Probably going to art during Wednesday, so little time either. But anyone really hungering for a 15-ish mile ride, PLEASE do so on your own or with a pal and report, but I doubt me/Spencer/Steven can/will.

Ending at Navy Pier seems firm. Lots of seasonal fun there, and booze, and fireworks.
A pretty good route overall. lots of familiar territory, good end spot. It seems to come out to 14 miles and some change. with 22 turns in the route overall.
I may pre-ride some of the areas of the route just for s*its and giggles.
If I do I will post any news.
Hoped you might. The jaunts on Michigan and on Southport are potentially snippable (reduces turns and length). Also Racine we don't remember well, and there's a long stretch on it. So new/recent on the ground feedback on those bits ASAP would be nice.

So Racine is just a residential road. I am not sure what I was thinking about but Racine isn't it, it'll still be nice because we may see some kids. It's pretty much the only residential area we'll be going to. Well the top part of Ashland will be residential too but anyway it still looks nice.
I and other NSers use SouthPort regularly, that may have been the intent. How about Ashland to Lincoln to Southport, which also reduce turns.
I checked that part of Southport using the Google street view and it seems like it's just like Racine a residential area. Either is fine with me.
My vague memory is SouthPort's pavement+parking is better. Maybe someone could check?
I did a little recon today.

I went down to Daley plaza and rode almost all of the route. I took the route all the way to the letter, I rode it to the north up through the various neighborhoods and places, all the way to Montrose then back down to where Southport hits clyborne. So far so good. The "Viagra triangle" on Rush should be good for a hoot, and Sheffield is narrow as hell, but we knew that already. no major construction anywhere on the route that I saw. Some work being done to a building on Ashland just north of Belmont, but that may be gone by Friday. Racine is great, and Southport is very good as well. There is a tiny bit of pavement tore up at Racine at Fullerton, but it is on the right hand side of the road and it is only about five feet by eight feet, and the pavement drops only an inch, no big deal, just a tiny hiccup, not a traffic stopper. no sawhorses or anything.

The fall colors were very beautiful, and if the weather holds it should be a good ride. Tomorrow I might do the rest of the route, but we will see.
OMG you rock! So maybe we review Sheffield's inclusion, and the Southport/Racine question.
I can do the bulk of printing unless someone else volunteers (please!), but it does cost me a few dozen dollars. ART before end of business Thursday would make my printer happy.
I think the route is fine the way it is. The narrow streets will help keep the mass intact. And we aren't on Sheffield for very long.

I like the fact that many of the streets the route takes already have bike lanes, so they aren't the busiest streets for cars.

There is plenty of space above the skull to put editorial creative text. I am not a writer so I am gonna avoid what to say. I have shrunk it 50% on my copy machine and I need to tweak the gray scale levels. But this is a start. I am going to wait for input from Andrew, Steven or you guys before I go any further. What about the "Burn in Hell" part. Should it say something else? Maybe just "Flame Ride?"
