The Chainlink

Funky loft-style apartment at Milwaukee and Division available

Okay, it's not entirely bike related, but it can be...

Right off Milwaukee ave., the most heavily traveled bike lane in the city. There's safety in numbers and most drivers know to look for bikes here. It's also barely a 15 minute bike ride into downtown. There's a bike rack out front, too!

It's up lots of stairs, so if you bring your bike(s) in all the time this might not be the place for you. I only bring in my lightest road bike.

The basics: 1000 sq ft, hardwood floors, A/C, sunroof over kitchen, washer and dryer in unit, enclosed backyard, top floor of three flat.
It's an old building full of old building quirks - crooked floors, washer in bathroom and dryer in bedroom, pantry is a corner nook...

I could be very interested in this : but I have two questions first -

1) I have a lease until 8/31 I cannot break

2) is this place big enough to share with a roomate ? (I can afford the rent; but would like to split
it to have extra money)

3) what are the specifics on the Utilities ?

thanks
I *can* count

(orig. had two questions, then added a third and didn't update...do-h)

The place and location are AMAZING!!!!! I would live there if I didn't own in Ravenswood.
It's really a special place, thanks for asking! I'll likely have better pictures soon too - anyone have a good image hosting suggestion?

Answers to questions:

1) I'd be willing to prorate the month of August - $600 will cover it. I'll be out by the 7th anyway, but can't afford to take less to hold it. It's good to have some time to move in, though

2) There is TONS of space to share with a roomate, but not a lot of privacy - the only walls are the ones around the bathroom and they dont go all the way to the ceiling, so although there's room for everything, there's little privacy. I've had ongoing bike-building projects inside and never notice the space they take up at all.

3) tenant pays utilities. I have my last two gas bills if you would like to see them. Because it's a top floor, it gets all the heat and I leave it off while I'm gone all day and didnt turn it on until about 10pm at night. I leave the front sliding glass door open in the summer while I'm gone all day (if there's no rain in the forecast). It's completely secure to leave it open and the breeze blows right through the place. I only use A/C in hot, rainy days. I think it's usually about $50/mo for gas and $18/mo for electric, but I'm very stingy and resourceful.

Hope that helps

Thanks for asking!

If the apartment is bike friendly (you don't mention bikes at all in your description) I can pit up an ad an your pics that you can link to at http://bikechicago.info/rentals.
I said it last week, I had some kind of inner ear infection or something and my irony detector is completely out of whack.
Carry on.

Someone forgot to insert their humor chip this morning . . .
My place went to the very first girl who viewed it... but she fell through, so I can't believe it's for rent! It's honestly the coolest spot ever! I'm throwing a sidewalk sale/backyard sunday beers/pre-party to my farewell bike ride on Sunday.

Come check it out then!

Jody, I had real good luck using the agent(s) got all 3 of my places rented. How come your landlord is not taking care of this ? I can tell you it is a tough market at the moment. I will say short prayer.
Is this place still available? And How Much?
Sorry, I should've linked to the post!! http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/apa/1298149281.html

I heard from a guy that wants to rent it sight unseen from Berkeley mid-month and passed him on to my landlord. I'll update the post if/when it's taken.

My landlord and I had a verbal agreement - my lease has been up for over a year. He agreed not to raise the rent and I promised that he'd never have to list the place. I didnt expect to get laid off... geez.

It's awesome enough of a space, though. It'll get rented....

Thanks for asking!
