Didn't know you would get my post to Jonathan, but glad you did, and glad you responded. None us VCR folks seem to use this site for anything much. However, as a city-dweller it could be a good resource for you, and ultimately our little cadre. Thanks for chiming in, and Jonathan, if you are listening come on back to us.
Jonathan, I never check Chainlink either due to being occupied with other sites that have been more active. However, I live in the city and am know to ride to Lake Forest for VCR rides. If you wish to join me, I will let you know when I plan those ventures. That usually gives me 110 to 120 miles door to door. Distance is good. And, Stu would say, "Distance is just not good. It is divine." I will follow Stu's lead and befriend you as well. KATE
I just saw your posting here o Chainlink from May 15 of last year. I am so sorry that I haven't checked this site in months. I always wondered what had happened to you. I certainly remember you as you were one of our most distinctive members, a true City Biker with aspirations to ride the roads of Lake, McHenry and Kenosha Counties. I would really like to see you again. You never did make contact with us last summer as you indicated you hoped to do. I hope you can read this message, as I have just "be-friended you" on Chainlink. Please re-contact me. My email address (outside of Chainlink) is kestrelxlo@comcast.net
Shortly after my VCR initiation I disappeared from the club, whether it was too far, having too little time, or mostly just fearing that my stamina wouldn't cut the extra 40-50 miles to get to the rides. I have felt appreciation for their camaraderie and generosity, and regret for not being more active in this club. I don't even know if they would remember me =), one winter showing up to the christmas party... on a tiny mountain bike with wet cotton clothing... as I moved through a crowd of dedicated cyclists I would hear comments and laughter from the doorway about the supposed joke about putting that silly bike in the yard.... as if anyone would have ridden in the ice... on that thing =). There were a couple rides which have an equal number of vivid ride memories and dense with experience, and then I disappeared.. I hope to be back this summer, and I look forward to it immensely. If you guys need anything, I will help.
Stu the only regret I have about joining VCR (in about 2004) was I did not join in 1984! In the past I was too intimidated by fast group rides until I got the hang of it with VCR. I spent way too many years and miles riding alone and inevitably did not do as regularly or as hard as I now do with VCR. And it feels easier with VCR! Riding and training together is the key.
Hi all. Please join us. I'm co-Founder and past president of VCR. We are not "just" a racing team anymore, we do lot's of fun stuff, and camaraderie is just one of the benefits of joining us. If you want more details email me here, or at: kestrelxlo@comcast.net
