Description

Hey all,

Dooring is something that can be prevented and we are hoping to make that happen. Simple steps can make the recent dooring crash stories avoidable and ones we never have to relive.

Come join the Look Chicago Street Team as we conduct our first Safety Blitz at the corners of Damen, Milwaukee and North Ave. We will be meeting here at 11 am to hand out informational flyers to pedestrians, cyclists and drivers.

Starting at 11am we will proceed down Milwaukee Ave toward the location where recently fellow cyclist Dustin Valenta was involved in a severely damaging dooring crash.

We plan to be out for an hour as we distribute flyers down Milwaukee Ave and end with an informal meeting at possibly Rite Liquors or Gold Star Bar.

I am a wimp when it comes to cold weather riding but I am so close to the Dee Road Metra station that transferring to the Blue line at Jeff Park works good. I'm early and there is a bar under the L tracks. At about 11 I started looking for "fanfare" and figured they might be late. At 11:30 I left the bar and walked to the intersection where I saw someone with a bike helmet. It was Thunder Snow and he told me that the group had dispersed so I passed out the flyers he gave me except for one to keep for myself. This was a success and should be done every three months.

Comment by Thunder Snow on March 2, 2013 at 8:10am: I handed off the rest of my flyers to Doug Iverson. Arrived at the Metra station and caught my train home with less than 3 minutes to spare. Life is good!

Sorry to miss the celebration, but I saw that someone hit the cars along Paulina and on the west side of Ashland between Milwaukee and North. I did one of the side streets between Paulina and Ashland on my way over to Quick Release Bike Shop on Ashland. I am going to post the rest of my comments on the group page.
